Iran blocks VPN

Iran is among the few countries who loves to keep strict control on the internet. They tried to block the internet access several times but Iranians found the way to circumvent the restrictions by using a VPN. But the new firewall deployed by Iran has blocked the VPN putting  internet access to halt. The government blocked the VPN saying they were illegal.

“Within the last few days illegal VPN ports in the country have been blocked,” said Ramezanali Sobhani-Fard, the head of parliament’s information and communications technology committee, according to Mehr. “Only legal and registered VPNs can from now on be used.”

The Iranian government has seen the power of the internet during the election of 2009, causing a revolution after the irregularities were reported in the election. Iran is holding an election , so this block of VPN is seen as a precautionary measure to stop civilians from repeating the 2009 .They are planning to put users  on domestic internet service disconnecting users from the rest of the world
