Hackers stole more than $1 million from one of the Leavenworth hospital. The Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth lost 1 million dollars from the electronic bank account after the breach by the cyber criminals.
The hack came into light on Monday when 3 unauthorized access was logged last Friday. The files moved an estimated $1.03 million out of the public hospital district’s ACH account to 96 different bank accounts, most of them in the Midwest and East Coast.
Though $133,000 were recovered by notifying the banks but may take about 30 days to get the exact number on the lost amount.
Treasurer of the Chelan county said
If there was access in the case where one junior taxing district got hacked, our natural assumption would be that any one of the other districts could have been hacked.
He further said
ACH accounts are reviewed and balanced on a 24-hour cycle each business day, but the weekend might have left the hackers time to remove stolen money before the theft was noticed Monday. The nearest recipient account was located in Utah.
The transfers of cash across state lines makes the crime subject to federal investigation and prosecution.
